Big Vision

Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure!

Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will be established by the lease of approximately 40 acres from Kevin and Joyce Atchley and approximately 160 acres from the Atchley First Family Limited Partnership. The lease of these properties and assets will be allocated in the most efficient means possible to be construed by potential donors as being legitimate and as true to purpose as possible until means and opportunity present themselves for the purchase and acquisition of both properties from their respective owners, along with all other tangible assets deemed necessary by the board for Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! to function.

Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will be two fold: first, a farm adventure for volunteers (Angels) donating their time and labor to help plan, construct, and ultimately operate the resort, and secondly, a farm adventure for guests and donors wanting to enjoy these beautiful natural resources and amenities.  It is planned that Ouachita Mountain Resort and Farm Adventure! will be fully accessible.

One of the first endeavors of Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will be to set up a sawmill which will allow the use of natural resources on the farm as well as in the local community to build Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure!.

“Calling all Angels!” will begin by seeking individuals who are willing to volunteer their time and labor to get this project off the ground. The first project will be to refurbish the “Farm House”  into a “Bunkhouse” type accommodation. Here food and lodging will be provided for volunteer groups willing to volunteer time, energy, and funds to help with this good work.

The next project for the volunteers (Angels), along with the daily chores required to establish and maintain the animals and different aspects of the Farm Adventure! , will be to construct several pull-through R.V. sites for donors and guests wishing to bring their R.V.s and volunteer at Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure!

After the establishment of the R. V. pull-throughs, the next project for the volunteers (Angels), along with the daily chores required to establish and maintain the animals and different aspects of the Farm Adventure!, will be to construct a tent camping facility for donors and guests wishing to camp at the resort and volunteer at Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure!

After the construction of the tent camping facility, the next project for the volunteers (Angels), along with the daily chores required to establish and maintain the animals and different aspects of the Farm Adventure!, will be to construct a ten-bedroom facility, similar to hotel rooms, to offer lodging for volunteers to come stay and enjoy the farm adventure while providing their time and labor to further construct, maintain, and ultimately operate the resort for guests with special needs. This will be an excellent opportunity for Ouachita Mountain Resort and Farm Adventure! to network with the Wounded Warrior Project.  After construction of this facility, it will be advertised as a six day, six night excursion lasting from noon on Sunday until noon on Saturday. Volunteers will be assured the opportunity to have hands-on experience with animals, gardening, cooking, construction, landscaping & development, along with a host of other “farm life” activities. Volunteers will have ample time to enjoy the natural wonders of the farm. Arrangements will be made to transport volunteers to and from the Fort Smith Regional Airport, if needed. Room and board will be provided in return for the dedication, integrity, and work of the volunteers.

Although Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will begin with no employees, paid staff will be added as required to cook, direct, and ensure the safety of all volunteers and guests in the various aspects of the Farm Adventure!.

After the construction of the lodging facility for the volunteers, Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will begin construction of cabins for guests. After lodging has been made available, staff will be allocated for the specific medical attention, safety, and comfort of guests with disabilities. The severity of the disability will determine the degree of care. Arrangements will be made for families choosing to stay with family members rather than having a caregiver provided.

The Farm Adventure! for individuals with special needs and foster children will be advertised as a four day, four night excursion offering a complete host of activities involving every aspect of the farm. Time and length of stay will vary on the type and need of respite care required. It is hoped that volunteers to supervise guest with special needs will be comprised mainly of retired educators professionals. Side-by-side ATV’s will make it possible for non-ambulatory guests to enjoy the Farm Adventure!. At this point, all legal aspects required, including background checks, will be necessary for those working with children and individuals with disabilities.

One of the main inherent qualities of Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will be to aspire to achieve a high level of self-sufficiency. One reason for this will be to instill the atmosphere of life on a family farm of long ago. The importance of learning that, “A good job done today greatly impacts the farm (and visitors) next season.” Another is to lessen the burden of public donations and fundraising.

Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will focus on self-sufficiency in areas such as:

  1. Wholesome food raised on the farm. The Farm Adventure! will focus on raising meats and vegetables most commonly used in the menu at Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure!. Efficiency will be increased through genetics and farm management. Utilizing these natural resources will require a processing facility approved by the USDA, which will allow the use of this whole food supply, and the creation of edible gifts for guests and donors.
  2. Energy. By using some of the most state of the art building techniques on the planet, to taking steps to raise the percentage of independence from the electric “Grid” by taking advantage of solar, wind, water, and steam power, Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! plans to be a champion of stewardship. Local resources will receive highest and greatest priority for sustaining operations on the resort.
  3. A third area of self-sufficiency Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will intensely target is the area of offering a wide array of “Thank You Gifts” to receive donations in a continuous manner. Being a publicly supported charity as determined by the support test, Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! will offer as many opportunities as imaginable to inspire guests, friends, and family to make donations of time and/or money. It should be made clear, all of the opportunities, whether they be goods or services, are for donation only. Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! does not charge a fee for anything. Ouachita Mountain Resort & Farm Adventure! is a free resource to individuals of all ages with a wide range of disabilities, and operates solely on the donations of Saints’ time and money.
